I went to the International Center of Photography (ICP) tonight for the Elliott Erwitt book signing they had going, and then checked out the current exhibitions. Currently on view is “Remembering 9/11,” which showcases the photographic work of 5 different photographers (or groups of photographers). In one project on display, titled here is new york: a democracy of photographs, photographs that had been submitted by a variety of people were on display. In a few shots, people were photographed while photographing. I couldn’t help but notice that no one had a digital camera in hand. Thinking back, I realized it was extremely uncommon at the time. I don’t remember anyone I knew having a digital camera until about 2003, 2004, 2005. …that’s how long it’s been, and how far we’ve come in a matter of only 10 years. Time marches on.
